Disaster Assistance to Vermont Communities Tops $1 Million
WILLISTON, Vt. — Federal disaster aid has topped $1.1 million for two Vermont counties impacted by severe storms and flooding in mid-June.  Addison and Franklin counties received the first of Vermont’s three presidential disaster declarations this summer on July 15, making local communities eligible to receive federal assistance.

Last month Congressional leaders discussed the National Dam Safety Program Act., H.R. 4981. The House Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment held a hearing in late July to review the program. State/Federal Assistance Available To Eligible Private Non-Profit Organizations
HONOLULU, Hawaii — Through the Public Assistance Program, FEMA provides supplemental Federal disaster grant assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly owned facilities and the facilities of certain Private Non-Profit (PNP) organizations. This program also encourages protection of these damaged facilities from future events by providing assistance for hazard mitigation measures during the recovery process.

OAKLAND, Ca. — Federal Officials announced today that The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Region IX is sending a Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) Team to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to evaluate the severe coastal erosion and storm surge flooding on the islands of Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk from November, 2007 through February, 2008.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers Remain Open
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Though recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will no longer be available in the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) centers in Porter and LaPorte counties after 8 p.m. today, three temporary disaster recovery centers will remain in operation in Lake County until further notice.

Infrastructure Solutions Summit
The Infrastructure Solutions Summit (ISS) hosted by ASCE's Civil Engineering Forum for Innovation (CEFI) was a two day event (April 25th and 26th) focusing on developing an agenda for implementing innovations, forming strategic partnerships and providing unified leadership to make infrastructure improvements a national priority. Listen to comments from Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, Congressman Tom Petri, Congressman Jim Oberstar and Felix Rohatyn, Co-Chair of the Center for Strategic and International Studies Commission on Infrastructure.
